Saints to hold out for world-record fee for Virgil van Dijk
Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk is set to be one of the most highly sought after players in the upcoming summer transfer window.
The Dutchman has been attracting the interest of a plethora of top European clubs across the span of the last six months and it’s no secret that the Premier League high-fliers are keen to bring him to their respective clubs this summer.
However, a player like Van Dijk is never going to come cheaply to those potential suitors and according to a claim from the Telegraph this evening, Saints are looking to hold out for a world-record transfer fee in terms of defenders if the Netherlands international is to be lured away.
The fee that has been thrown around regarding a valuation for the 25-year-old has been at the £50 million mark, but it looks as though Saints could try to fend off potential suitors by placing a quite staggeringly big price tag on their key man and team captain.
