Southampton set for mini-tournament in October
Southampton could be set to participate in a mini-tournament this October as Le Havre celebrate the 500 year anniversary of the city and port being founded.
According to a report from French news outlet France Bleu, Saints are one of four teams that could be in line to take part in a friendly-styled tournament across the border in what is sure to be a celebratory period for the city.
It’s stated that the four teams in line to participate are Saints, Le Havre themselves, Spanish side Espanyol and Ligue 1 giants Marseille.
Of course, mini-tournaments such as these are normally scheduled for pre-season, but this event would take place during the international break at the start of October, allowing for the players who aren’t away with their respective countries to keep their match fitness up and play in the small competition.
Claude Puel will be well aware of Le Havre and Marseille from his time in France, and Saints will know Espanyol well given that they’ve taken them on two pre-seasons in a row.
