Romeu reveals Puel influence
Oriol Romeu has praised boss Claude Puel for having faith in him, as reported by NBC Sports.
Talking to Pro Soccer Talk ahead of his return to former club Chelsea, Romeu spoke about how Puel has helped him improve his game this season.
He is always trying to help me with the structure of the team. As a midfielder, you always have players around yourself. If I can help the team to get tactically ready, it helps the team a lot.
We know in this league that sometimes the team gets unorganized and everyone is out of their place. Basically, in me he wants to have someone who makes sure everyone is back in their place and the team is ready to go again.
Apart from having that faith in me and playing me in so many games, he is always trying to teach me in different parts of my game.
Romeu signed for the Saints from Chelsea in the summer of 2015, and has excelled this season as a key part of Puel’s team, adequately filling the hole left by Victor Wanyama’s summer departure.
Chelsea’s N’Golo Kanté, Everton’s Idrissa Gueye, Manchester United’s Ander Herrera and Wanyama have all earned plaudits this season as expert enforcers, and Romeu is beginning to see his name being thrown in the ring.
The Spaniard will now look to help Saints on to a positive end to the 2016/17 season, in which he has been largely tipped to win the club’s own Player of the Year award after a stellar campaign.
