Despite the physical and aggressive nature he has when winning the ball, he is a ball-playing centre-back comfortable carrying and playing the ball out of the back.
His impressive performances have earned him no shortage of suitors as he has been linked with moves to Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal, Everton, and even Real Madrid.
However, the 25-year-old Dutch international will not come cheap as Southampton are believed to have placed a £50 million price tag on him.
