Southampton made January move to sign Chedjou
Galatasaray defender Aurelien Chedjou has revealed that Southampton made a move to sign him on the final day of the January transfer window.
Speaking to Turkish news outlet Ajanspor, as cited by Wales Online, Chedjou claimed that he was in negotiations with both Swansea and Southampton regarding a loan move until the end of the season but nothing materialised in the end.
The 31-year-old becomes a free agent at the end of the season as his deal with Galatasaray expires, and the report actually claims that Saints do remain in brief negotiations with the powerful central defender.
I was in talks with Swansea City and Southampton in January. It seems my Galatasaray adventure will come to an end this summer.
Saints failed to bring in a new centre-back in the January transfer window and although it was a big mistake on the board’s part, it wasn’t for the want of trying it seems.
Chedjou could be an option for Claude Puel on a free transfer at the end of the season, but the Cameroon international is likely to have many potential suitors.
