Southampton manager Claude Puel has handed out the latest squad news ahead of his side’s clash with Tottenham at White Hart Lane this weekend.
The Saints travel to face Spurs after a two week break from action and will be looking to close in on the Europa League places.
Puel started off with some good news for the Saints fans. Charlie Austin, who has been out of action since December, has returned to training this week.
Sunday is likely to be too soon for the forward but he could return when Southampton face Bournemouth on April 1st at St.Mary’s.
Speaking to Southampton’s website, Puel said this:
For Charlie, he did light training with us this morning without any opponents and it was great to see him. We will see when he can come back with the group, with intensity and opposition.
Puel has also confirmed that Jeremy Pied is closing in on his long-awaited comeback. Pied is set to play for the under-23 side first.
He’s not available for the moment but Jeremy Pied will come back with the Under-23s which is a good thing.
Virgil Van Dijk, Matt Targett and Alex McCarthy continue to sit on the sidelines as they recover from their respective injuries.
The long-term injuries are still out like Virgil, Matt Targett and Alex McCarthy.
