Southampton are all set to welcome Premier League champions Leicester City to St Mary’s Stadium this Sunday as they look to bounce back from four consecutive top flight defeats.

Saints sit in 13th place, just three points above The Foxes who are sat in 15th, and will know that nothing less than a win will do.

It was certainly an enthralling encounter when the two sides last met on the south coast back in October 2015, with the honours even.

Saints took the lead through club captain Jose Fonte 20 minutes into the match as his glancing header from the corner managed to find its way into Kasper Schmeichel’s bottom right corner.

Then, the hosts doubled the advantage just 15 minutes later as Virgil van Dijk pounced from another corner at close range, giving Saints a 2-0 lead heading into the break.

However, Leicester showed the same fighting spirit as they did for the entirety of the season to come back and snatch the win away from Saints’ grasp.

Jamie Vardy latched onto a low ball into the box just after the hour mark to fire a header beyond Kelvin Davis, reducing the deficit.

Then, Vardy delivered a sucker punch to Saints as he raced onto Riyad Mahrez’s delicate through ball to send the ball past Davis into the roof of the net with a thunderbolt of a finish, meaning that The Foxes came away with a 2-2 draw and another invaluable point.

Saints will hope to avoid another Premier League defeat on Sunday as they did against Leicester last time round, but they will know that it’s time to start getting wins under their belts.
