West Brom end interest in Rodriguez
West Brom manager Tony Pulis has confirmed that he is no longer looking to make a move for Southampton striker Jay Rodriguez.
The Baggies boss, quoted by the Express and Star, claims that it was Rodriguez’s two goals against Bournemouth last Sunday that ended his availability and made any potential move to bring him to The Hawthorns in January impossible.
We were very interested in the summer, we nearly got a deal done at the beginning of the season.
The one-time England international has scored just four goals all season, with two of them coming against Bournemouth, and it looked as though he’d be out of favour and available in next month’s transfer window.
However, Claude Puel has shown faith in Rodriguez and if he can continue his form in front of goal as he did against Bournemouth, his faith and trust in the former Burnley man will be more than repaid.
We were very interested until he got those goals against Bournemouth and that’s ended that one.
West Brom were linked with a move for Rodriguez recently but it’s now certain that they’ll need to look elsewhere for attacking reinforcements.
The 27-year-old will look to keep scoring when his side take on Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday.
