Southampton will welcome Middlesbrough to St Mary’s Stadium on Sunday for the first time in over five years.

When the two sides last met, it was in late October 2011 and Saints were flying high in the Championship, looking to seal a win over Boro to maintain their 100% home record in the division upon their return.

It was certainly a season to remember and the events that unfolded in the game against Boro were memorable as well, with an excellent Saints performance on show for everyone to see.

Southampton cult hero Guly Do Prado opened the scoring in the first-half with a quite excellent header, beating a helpless Luke Steele in the Boro goal.

It was not long before the Brazilian forward doubled his tally for the day after tucking away a relatively straightforward finish from club legend Rickie Lambert’s well-placed nod down.

Saints remained in cruise control throughout the course of the game and they really did grab the game by the scruff of the neck in the second-half, playing some excellent football and showing their quality at a higher level.

David Connolly scored late on to finish off a lovely move from the hosts, handing them a comprehensive 3-0 win over their counterparts.

Claude Puel and his side will hope for a similar scoreline on Sunday.
