Southampton will be hoping to bounce back from their unfortunate defeat against Inter Milan tomorrow afternoon as they take on Manchester City.
Saints were unlucky not to take anything from the San Siro on Thursday night as they lost 1-0 to Inter away from home in the third game of their Europa League group stage campaign so far.
However, they’ll be hoping for a change in fortune when they travel to the Etihad on Sunday, with another unbeaten Premier League game in mind.
City will also be looking to avenge recent woes from their ventures in Europe though, too. They’re heading into the game off the back of a 4-0 Champions League thumping against Barcelona at the Nou Camp, so we can expect a big performance from Pep Guardiola’s men.
Here’s how we combined the two teams together, taking injuries from either side into consideration to make up the best line-up from either side.
Fraser Forster
I’ve gone with Forster ahead of Claudio Bravo.
Cuco Martina
With Bacary Sagna out, Pablo Zabaleta a doubt and Cedric Soares also a doubt, only one available right-back can fill this void!
John Stones
Stones gets in ahead of Jose Fonte here.
Virgil van Dijk
Virgil just can’t not be in this side…
Gael Clichy
Clichy easily gets in ahead of Sam McQueen. No fault of his own, mind!
Fernandinho
Arguably the most underrated player in the league.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg
Hojbjerg is admired by Saints fans and they are not alone; Pep Guardiola is also a massive fan of the young Dane from his days back at Bayern Munich. He slots in the team.
Dusan Tadic
Not to say he’s any better than Raheem Sterling or Leroy Sane, but I just had to include Dusan. I couldn’t not, on his current form…
Kevin de Bruyne
Perhaps this is an unpopular opinion, but I genuinely think he’s the best player in the Premier League. World class.
David Silva
Stupendous creativity and is flourishing under Pep.
