The former Rennes man has played 36 Ligue 1 games for Monaco so far, building up an impressive repertoire as a midfield enforcer.

Manchester United and Italian side AC Milan are also said to be monitoring the situation, as they also weigh up moves for Bakayoko.

TalkSport also, however, claim that a move is unlikely to surface in January. This means that any deal to sign the Frenchman could have to wait until next summer.

It is also said that AC Milan are the current favourites to land his signature, with the European giants likely to have more pulling power than Southampton in negotiations.

Southampton will be closely following his movements, with scouts continuing to monitor his performances in France for Monaco.
