Southampton forward Charlie Austin has spoken about how well the Saints performed as a team after their 3-0 win against West Ham at the Olympic Stadium.

The Saints opened the scoring when Ryan Bertrand was sent clear on the left and his low cross was swept into the back of the net by the oncoming Charlie Austin.

Dusan Tadic then doubled Southampton’s lead in the second half. Nathan Redmond and Charlie Austin combined to send Tadic through, and the Serbian took the ball past Adrian and tapped it into an empty net.

Substitute James Ward-Prowse then wrapped up the scoring in the final moments as he tucked home the third goal from Steven Davis’ cut-back.

Austin now has five goals in his last four Southampton appearances, having scored twice against Sparta Prague and then netting against Swansea and Crystal Palace.

Speaking to Southampton’s website after the win against West Ham, Austin said this:

It’s a massive result to come away to West Ham and win 3-0. We’re delighted with the performance and we’ve got the keep this run going.

It’s four wins on the bounce so we’re going into Thursday now all guns blazing!

In the first ten to fifteen minutes we stepped off and showed a bit too much respect maybe but when we got a foothold we were deserved winners.

You’re delighted as a striker as you just want to score goals.

That’s what you’re credited on but for look at the team we’ve got, we’re always going to create chances so it’s a dream!
