According to Sport.Ro, Southampton are set to sign Steaua Bucuresti forward Nicolae Stanciu.

The report says that Southampton have made a €9m bid for Stanciu, which Steaua Bucuresti deem too good to turn down.

It also says that they are waiting until after their Champions League clash with Manchester City this week to let him go, despite being 5-0 down against the Premier League side.

This means that Southampton will be able to complete the signing after tomorrow’s clash between Manchester City and Steaua Bucuresti, and should be completed by the end of the week.

Stanciu managed to score 14 goals for Steaua last season. He also mustered 11 assists and has started this season in fine form.

He has played six games this term, scoring four goals for the Romanian giants.

Claude Puel is looking to strengthen his side further before deadline day and has clearly identified Stanciu as a main target, with the deal now looking to progress if a bid is accepted.

The 23-year-old is an attacking midfielder, meaning that he could provide competition for Dusan Tadic at the tip of the diamond. The Serbian currently has no competition for his place.
