According to Soccernews, Southampton have been scouting Utrecht forward Sebastien Haller.

Newcastle have also been scouting Haller, but Southampton’s Premier League and Europa League status gives them an edge over the Championship side.

Haller was superb for Utrecht last season as he has netted 19 goals in just 37 league matches for the Dutch outfit and could be just the forward that Claude Puel needs to suit his diamond formation.

The striker was close to completing a move to the Premier League in January. Norwich agreed a £6.5m fee for the forward, but the East Anglian club failed to agree terms with Haller, eventually ending in Norwich’s relegation from the top-flight.

Claude Puel is still looking for additions to his side before the deadline in nine days, with Haller possibly being the striker that the fans have been asking for.

Haller could come in and compete with Shane Long, Nathan Redmond, Charlie Austin and Jay Rodriguez for a spot in the side.
