In an exclusive interview with The Telegraph, Claude Puel has revealed that he perceives new signing Nathan Redmond as a player that has great potential – in the centre forward role.
Redmond has spent his whole career used largely as a winger, for both Birmingham and Norwich, however it now looks as though his role in the team is to change as Puel identifies him as a capable striker.
He (Redmond) played always wide but I think he is a very good striker.
The interview with The Telegraph is Puel’s first since his arrival at St Mary’s this summer and it was certainly interesting to see that he put emphasis on the transition of Redmond’s position.

Throughout the course of pre-season so far, when Redmond has been called upon, Puel has been utilising the England under-21 international in a more central role, so it may not come as a surprise to some of the Southampton faithful that a newer role has been discovered for the rapid forward.
I think the squad is very competitive.
Redmond was the first signing through the door at Southampton this summer and was announced before Puel had even been confirmed as the club’s new manager at the end of June.
