According to a recent tweet from Scouts in Attendance, a Southampton scout watched on as Championship side Newcastle United defeated Vitesse Arnhem by three goals to two.

Newcastle took the lead as Kevin Leerdam netted an own goal, before Dwight Gayle doubled The Magpies’ advantage shortly after.

Rafa Benitez’s men went three up before half time as Jack Colback netted the third.

Vitesse did fight back, however, as Chelsea loanee Nathan and skipper Guram Kashia pulled back two consolation goals for the Eredivisie team.

Although the tweet does not give an indication exactly as to who Saints were keeping their eye on, Lewis Baker from Chelsea is a name mentioned, rather speculatively.

One player that has been linked in previous times has been Vitesse winger Milot Rashica, who played the full 90 minutes against Newcastle.

Whoever Saints were scouting, however, it’s clear to see that the club are actively scanning around for reinforcements this month and, in this case, for the future.

Vitesse have a crop of exciting young talents due to their partnership with Chelsea and it can easily be assumed that it was a Blues young gun that Saints were keeping their eye on.
