Confirmed – Wanyama joins Tottenham
Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama has officially signed for fellow Premier League side Tottenham, as confirmed by the club website.
Wanyama has joined Tottenham on a four-year contract, for an undisclosed fee. Though undisclosed, the fee is reported to be around £11m. This is £1.5m less than what Southampton originally paid for him.
The Kenyan midfielder joined Southampton in 2013 from Celtic for £12.5m, but Spurs have signed him for a reduced fee due to him having just one year left on his contract. Wanyama signed a four-year contract when he joined Southampton, which meant he would have been able to leave on a free next summer.
The 24-year-old was offered a new five-year contract at the club earlier this year, but opted not to sign it as he waited for a move to a ‘bigger club’. He has now made his move, signing for Spurs.
The North London side finished 3rd in the Premier League last season, meaning they have Champions League football for the upcoming season.
