According to a surprise report from France Football, as quoted by Sport Witness , Southampton are among a host of Premier League clubs looking to make a move for LOSC Lille’s prized asset Sofiane Boufal.

The young midfielder has been in absolutely sublime form for the French outfit this season, bursting onto the scene and catching the eye of many with some glittering displays in Ligue 1.

The 22-year-old has been playing out of his skin this season and has been enjoying his best season in Lille’s colours since his move from Angers last year, but if Saints are to make a move, they will have to fend off some serious competition.

The Moroccan international’s price has been quoted as €20 million by France Football; a fee that would break Southampton’s highest transfer record, but could pay off massively.

Liverpool are said to be front-runners for Boufal, with Arsenal also being interested along with Southampton.

A key to signing Boufal is set to come down to the 22-year-old’s wages. The report from France Football states that the Morocco international is looking to secure a fairly hefty pay rise, with a wage around €60,000 a week being the reported target.

Of course, Boufal is unlikely to sign for Southampton if they are to fail in their quest for European football ahead of next season, however, he could be the missing link between Saints and their top four hopes; a creative midfielder is needed.
