According to a shock report from the Daily Mirror, former Southampton star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is now a target for Ronald Koeman, with a move back to St Mary’s being on the cards in the summer.
Chamberlain is one of Saints’ most prestigious academy products in recent years, as he went on to join Arsenal after shining in League One for the club, but after a patchy spell at the Gunners, a move back to the south coast could be in the offing.
The 22-year-old has found first-team action this season extremely hard to come by as a result of falling out of favour, being hindered with injuries and being kept out of the team by some excellent individual performances from the Gunners’ team.
However, Saints are looking to strengthen next season with more talent in order to really push on for European qualification once more and to do this, they need some fresh talent to help them go forward.
Although a move back to St Mary’s would be a welcome sight for the Southampton faithful, the Saints will have to move fast if they are to acquire Chamberlain, as Liverpool and Manchester City are also said to be interested in the full England international.
