Saints target hints at Premier League move

According to a report from talkSPORT, Southampton have emerged as shock targets for experienced German striker Sandro Wagner.

The Saints and other potential suitors for the 28-year-old have today been put on red alert after the striker was coy about his future in Germany as he spoke to Bild, with a move to the Premier League looking the most likely.

We still have seven games. I promised the coach to give full power until the end. And my focus is on the league. I want to help the boys and the club. Then I go on vacation to Italy – and then we’ll see.

However, if Southampton are to make a move for Wagner this summer, they will need to quickly pursue their interest, as fellow Premier League clubs West Brom and Aston Villa are both reported to have taken an interest in recent weeks.

Wagner has been in excellent form for relegation-threatened SV Darmstadt in the Bundesliga this season, clearly being their stand-out player and notching an impressive 12 goals in 28 appearances; a goal ratio of just under one every two games.

The prospect of signing Wagner is an inviting one for all, as he currently holds a hugely surprising buyout clause of just £580,000; a fee that will be affordable to every single Premier League team and even in the Championship.
