According to a report in the printed version of Corriere Dello Sport, Southampton are amongst a host of top European clubs that are taking a large interest in promising forward Antonio Sanabria.
The 20-year-old is currently plying his trade in Spain, for La Liga outfit Sporting Gijon, but is on loan from Italian giants Roma as they looked to give the promising striker some experience elsewhere.
The Paraguayan starlet has been in fine form so far this season for the Spanish side, bagging an impressive ten goals in twenty games; averaging a goal every two games.
A testament to Sanabria’s quality at such a young age is also the fact that the exciting front man managed to earn his first international call-up to his native Paraguay three years ago and has made five appearances since.
Sanabria’s background is certainly an impressive one, given his history within the Barcelona youth system as well as, of course, his move to Roma, but interest remains high for the striker from across Europe.
If Saints are to make a genuine move for Sanabria, they will need to move incredibly fast as the report from Corriere Dello Sport also states that Spanish outfit Sevilla are interested, as well as Saints’ fellow Premier League rivals Tottenham taking an interest.
Not only do these two sides possess something that Southampton may not be able to offer next season, in the form of European football, but all sides will have to fight off competition from financial heavyweights Real Madrid if they are to acquire Sanabria.
Sporting Gijon may also look to sign the Paraguay international beyond his current loan spell.
Would Sanabria be a good signing for Southampton?
