According to a tweet by @Scoutsattending, Southampton scouts were watching Hull play Brighton on Tuesday when the two sides held out for a 0-0 draw.

At first glance, seeing that the Saints were in attendance for a Brighton game, the initial thoughts would be cast back to the previous links to promising Seagulls winger Solly March, however, the exciting wide man has been ruled out for the remainder of the season through a serious injury, meaning that another target may have been identified by the excellent Southampton recruitment system.

It is unknown which player/s that the scouts were watching during the match but it could possibly have been Hull striker Abel Hernandez. He was one of the few possible targets that were playing, with the rest not really up to Southampton standards.

Hernandez has scored 18 goals in all competitions this season and has been one of the best players in the Championship this season for Hull. He has 16 goals in 24 Championship starts.

Ronald Koeman could possibly be eyeing up a summer move for Hernandez to further his striking options at the club.

There were a couple other players who it could have been, with David Stockdale, Harry Maguire and Jake Livermore all being fairly realistic targets for Southampton. However, as stated, the player remains unknown.

Who do you think it was?
