According to a recent report in Spanish news outlet AS, Southampton are among a host of Premier League clubs that are taking a huge amount of interest in Real Betis goalkeeper Antonio Adan.
Just today, the Daily Express claimed that Liverpool were frontrunners for Adan’s signature, however with the report in AS also claiming that both Sunderland and Southampton are taking an interest, the competition for the Spaniard will be high in the summer.
Adan’s name will be one that may have stuck in several football fans’ memories across the years, as he is renowned for spending an incredible 16 years at La Liga giants Real Madrid, coming through their youth academy and playing for both their first team and second team, RM Castilla.
However, due to the excellent displays of Real legend Iker Casillas, Adan played only seven senior games for them at club level and, therefore, made his emotional farewells from the Bernabeu in 2013 to join Italian side Cagliari for a season, before joining up with current club Real Betis.
Since his arrival at Betis in 2014, Adan has been their number one choice between the sticks and has impressed throughout his 77 appearances, attracting the interests of other clubs.
Saints may be looking to strengthen their goalkeeping options as the experienced Maarten Stekelenburg’s loan is set to end at the end of the season and Ronald Koeman may see fit to bolster his backup for Fraser Forster this summer.
