Speaking to Southampton’s website, Saints skipper Jose Fonte has spoken about the belief and confidence in the squad and the current momentum that is building.

Southampton beat Swansea City at The Liberty Stadium yesterday thanks to a Shane Long header in the 70th minute. The 1-0 win has sent the Saints up to sixth in the league, a position that fans wouldn’t have dreamt of just over a month ago.

After losing 1-0 to Norwich in the first match of 2016; Southampton have won five and drawn one of their six Premier League matches, conceding no goals in that time.

They are currently on a terrific run of form and the FA Cup weekend break may have come at a horrible time, however, Fonte says the belief is there and the momentum is continuing to build with each passing result.

Speaking after the win over Swansea, Jose Fonte said this:

The belief and the confidence is there and we honestly believe we can finish the season very strongly.

It was an important three points against Swansea City and now we have to move on to the next one.

Obviously the system we’re playing at the moment makes it very hard for any team to come and play against us.

We’ve found the right players for the right positions, which is very important and the momentum is there now.
